As I was setting everything up, ladies kept coming in asking if I was going to open a yarn shop. I said no and finally asked why everyone was coming in asking about the yarn shop.

Apparently, years ago, there had been  a yarn shop in the exact spot I was developing.  So I pondered and pondered and decided opening a yarn shop would be a great idea along with Rocky Mountain Bear Factory. There was a whooping 500 square feet available right next door to where I was, the landlord let me knock the wall out so both shops could share the same space and we opened Memorial weekend. So I left my job as director of homecare and hospice at Estes Park Medical Center and opened both businesses.

Twenty-two years later, I am in The Courtyard shops and occupy 5000 square feet.  We are your creative destination for supplies for knitting, quilting, needlework, crocheting and much more.  We offer fabulous classes and have wonderful social get togethers, guest instructors, live zoom events and classes and continue to grow and evolve into a shop that is a safe haven for all.

The journey has not been easy and hasn't contained your typical retail challenges. Floods, beetles, fires, pipes breaking, roof leaking, building delays, racoons falling from the ceiling,  evacuations, covid and covid closures and restrictions. All things that could have closed us down, but quitting isn't in my DNA. Now I am thinking of retiring and have put the shop up for sale. I plan on the shop continuing and growing to meet my customer's needs.  It is all an adventure. I love the shop and after it sells, I will continue to support it and the new owners while I continue my career with Sentry Residential Real Estate.
